John Chivery (Russell Tovey) is the assistant turnkey at the Marshalsea Prison. He's madly in love with Amy Dorrit, but it doesn't seem she is romantically interested in him.
Andrew Davies says of Russell Tovey's performance, "I think he comes out as one of the most lovable characters in the whole thing."
