Russell Tovey in Silent Witness did all his own stunts including a rather tricky turn into a driveway whilst riding full speed on a bike. Russell used his foot to brake and turn instantly left O.H.A.S. would probably say "No" to that these days.

At the start of the episode Russell's character spends a lot of time hovering around the ward in a hospital trying to contact his girlfriend. It's only later you get to know the awful truth.
The 2 monochromatic shots are from a flashback scene where Russell's character commits a very unpleasant crime.
At one stage he takes his girlfriend (or possibly biological sister) captive.
He certainly knows how to play a psycho with credible ease!
