nominated for Writers’ Guild awards

Doctor Who will compete with Being Human and Ashes to Ashes to be named Best Television Drama Series at this year’s Writers’ Guild Awards.
Other shows nominated include The Thick of It, penned by a team of writers including Armando Iannucci, and Peep Show by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain.
Both are up for Best Television Comedy, alongside Getting On written by Jo Brand, Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine.
In the Best Television Short-Form Drama category, Small Island by Paula Milne will compete with Occupation by Peter Bowker and Five Daughters by Stephen Butchard.
Elsewhere Coronation Street, Holby City and Casualty have been shortlisted in the continuing drama section, and Tracey Beaker Returns has been nominated in the children’s television drama/comedy category, which also sees Horrible Histories and Shaun the Sheep nominated.
Meanwhile, Jez Butterworth’s play Jerusalem is nominated for Best Theatre Play, alongside Enron by Lucy Prebble and Dunsinane, by David Greig.
The awards will be presented on November 21 2010.
