Pop Idol winner Will Young has formed a close friendship with tough guy actor Russell Tovey, one of the original cast members of the stage and screen production of The History Boys. Russell, 27, who was brought up in Essex, was tipped to become the new Doctor Who, but lost out to Matt Smith. Will, 30 -- who was educated at [pounds sterling]27,000- a-year Wellington College -- once shared a rented Notting Hill flat with Mary Fellowes, niece of the Queen's former private secretary Lord (Robert) Fellowes. Will and Russell were first spotted together at transvestite DJ Jodie Harsh's birthday party last year, and while the lisping crooner was being filmed at the Roundhouse in Camden for a profile on ITV's The South Bank Show, Russell could be seen in the background of his dressing room.
Says Will's spokesman: 'They have been good friends for about a year and spend a lot of time out and about together.'
