ANSWER: “Perusing the Looking Good message boards this week I was struck by a post left by MHer Charlie D who is just 22 and already starting to see his hair thin out. He wants to know if there is a permanent solution. Well, unfortunately not at the moment. Right now, gene therapy looks the most hopeful option for dealing with hair loss but it’s still early doors on that one.
I most certainly sympathise with anyone in this situation, as I started losing my hair in my mid 20s (though it didn't get seriously thin until I was in my mid 30s). And, of course, there are plenty of young guys affected. Prince William is one of them and I noticed the other day that actor Russell Tovey is a bit thin on top too (sorry Russell).
So what to do? Well, any hairstylist will tell you that a shorter cut will make hair look thicker if you’re starting to lose it. In the short term, thickening shampoos can also help make the most of what you have by plumping up the hair fibres. And it's worth treating your hair with a little more TLC – rough towel drying and over styling don't exactly help if your hair is thinning.
Stylists are also always telling me that you should ditch heavy styling products like waxes if you have thinning hair as they make it look 'gappy'. Try lighter gels, mousses or sprays instead.
As for a more long-term solution, Regaine is probably top of the list. Seemingly, in tests two thirds of men who use it see positive results and in four out of five men it actually halts the progression of further hair loss. It's an expensive hobby though and you have to keep on using it for it to be effective.
The other solution, as some guys on the message board have said, is to live with it. Easier said than done I know, but accepting that you’re follically-challenged probably is the best long-term solution for hair loss.

Every time I brought my school students on an excursion to the beach Sweetie would come down to meet them. She is a legend in Newcastle Oz.
