NEW
YEAR
IN NEWCASTLE
OZ
In sultry summer heat, on the far side of planet, some of Ozziebear’s cousins were waiting patiently for Ozzie to let them know when he'd be departing from Europe. Since they had not had an email or tweet for days they decided to do something constructive. Snowy, Sheila, Kylie, Bruce and Macca spent the day with pens and markers, each making a sign. They picked the best sign, got dressed nicely, combed their fur and posed for a lovely welcoming photo to send in an email.
While they waited for a reply, then
next day Ozziebear's cousins had to get ready for the Newcastle New Year celebrations.
Australia is one of the first countries to start it all off. For the cousins, New Year’s
Eve consisted of lazing at the beach napping, eating party food and napping some more...so that they could stay up late and watch Newcastle harbour come alive with fireworks at midnight.
Early in the morning they jostled with other Novocastrians for a good vantage point near Nobby's Lighthouse on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The big ships rely on Nobby's Lighthouse to guide them into the harbour. They watched an enormous ship sail past Nobby's from under some shady Norfolk Island pines, in a beach suburb called Stockton.

To keep the younger bear cubs occupied Snowy (who just happened to be a coal miner) took his young cousins on a walk to the Newcastle Ferry Wharf and the watched many big coal ships come into Newcastle harbour. The SS Santa Lucia was pulled along by tiny boats called tugs he explained. Snowy's owner Tom in Oz knows a lot about tugs. *wink*
The cousins played games on the beach right up until the sun started going down then went back to their vantage point.
From
all over Newcastle families flocked to the harbour to watch the laser light
displays and fireworks. It was mighty crowded and noisy. Snowy had to hold the
little ones tightly. He thought that Ozziebear would be very proud of how well
he managed to keep the little ones safe.
There
was a lot of celebrating and drinking that evening. Sadly, one of their
friends called Jason took a tumble off some rocks and fell into the
harbour and hit his head. But Kylie bandaged him up, gave his forehead a
kiss and he forgot all about it very quickly.
The
next day though, Jason was like a bear with a sore head!!!

ALMOST
NEW YEAR
IN KEHL GERMANY
Since
Ozziebear doesn’t know anything about the country he will emigrate to in a few
days. First he looked at some reading material sent over by his new owner Tom
in Oz.
He
did some research on the Internet to find out if there is also a New
Year in Australia. He was surprised to find that they even have fireworks.
Lucky Aussies have theirs first!!! Looks like a fun place to live!

Below we have just a few of the many well-wishers of this site that have contributed to making this blog worthwhile in 2011 and here's hoping for a bigger and brighter 2012. Love you all, Tom.
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM TOKYO AND OTHER CITIES
BOYD HILTON'S 50TH
My old friend (underline old), Boyd
Hilton and I have corresponded on Twitter for two years now. Well, I correspond
frequently and he ignores me most of the time, or sends me a tweet to say, “As
usual very little of what you have said makes sense.” But you know what? He
loves me, he truly does ya know!
When
I found out that Russell Tovey was heading to Japan for a week over New Year I
asked Boyd if I could blog some information about his recent birthday party. Russell
Tovey was one of the many invited guests. Boyd said, “Sure!” And as everyone knows,
this means in journalistic lingo, “Yep, you have free range to report on everything
leaving no stone unturned!” Well here is my Boyd Hilton Birthday Report
followed by numerous articles which Boyd has also given me permission to blog –
he being an editor of Heat Magazine which is where the majority of the articles
come from.
Boyd
Hilton, critic, editor, columnist and nowadays radio presenter turned 50 on the 9th of December 2011. He and his chums had a typical London night
out. Nothing too outrageous but certainly not quiet! Boyd and friends
Russell Tovey, Matthew Cain, Ed Watson, Danny Lee Wynter, Robert Diament, Stephan Tanbin Sastrawidjaja, Daniel Jackson and others went out to
a restaurant for a meal first, then out on the town!
